Update!

Hello all!  Sorry I haven't updated in a while!  Here is what's going on this week:
  • We will be celebrating June birthdays on Friday, at 11:30, when the kids get back from lunch.
  • We will celebrate all July and early August birthdays next Wednesday, at 1:00.
  • Field trip on Thursday!  Make sure your child has good walking shoes, pants, at least one water bottle, snack, a lunch (if they are bringing a home lunch), a hat, and gloves, if you've got some.  We will be planting trees outside, so please also send a jacket in case it gets cold or windy!
  • Mesa Madness is Saturday, from 8-2.  It is a giant yard sell here at school, so if you want to sell some stuff, reserve your spot today!  If you want to buy some stuff, come, too!
  • Field day is next Tuesday, May 25th!  It should be a fun day!
  • Last day of school is next Thursday, May 27th!  I can't believe how the year has flown!
Hope you have a great week!

Field Trip Fun

Hello all! I'm sure you all know by now that we had a Field Trip today to Barnyard Days at the college. We had a blast! The kids learned to rope, did an obstacle course on a stick horse, saw a sheep get sheared, saw piglets, got to grind wheat into flour and did many other things! Please enjoy some of the pictres, and ask your child what they learned today!!! :) Beautiful weather for a field trip!

March 30

Happy last week of March/first week of April! Here are the spelling words for this week: new few blew chew grew knew drew flew stew dew *kind *again
All of our words have the -ew sound in them!

This week in math, we are reviewing place value, and starting some double digit addition!

We are working on getting pen pal letters sent to a first grade in Phoenix, where one of my friends from high school teaches. We have also sent out letters to Korea! I am very excited about all of our letter writing!

We are also starting Felix. I have put together the letters with the bunnies in them, and am sending them out tomorrow! I hope I have addresses from everyone! It is awesome when we start getting Felix back and find out what adventures he's been on!

Have a great week!

Thursday

Happy Thursday to all! I realized on recess duty, just how quickly Spring has sprung! I can't believe how little snow is left out on the playground! Happy Spring to all!

Spelling test today. Hopefully I can get it in the folders in time to come home today!

Also, please send back Felix addresses ASAP, so I can send them out tomorrow or Monday! I also need field trip permission slips back by Monday! Have a wonderful day!

Monday

Happy Monday! Here are our spelling words for this week: oil, soil, boil, coin, point, spoil, moist, coil, boy, toy, *little, *place. The words with the * next to them are our challenge words.

Some things to remember: Please read for the read-a-thon! It is from now until April 5th. As children read, they earn charms. The top reader, and top money raiser in the class earn prizes, and a chance to slime Mrs. Smart, and possibly me!

Please continue to send a jacket with your child. Morning recess is still chilly!

We will be learning about fractions this week in math! I love fractions! They are simple fractions, like 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, etc. We will not be adding/subtracting/multiplying or dividing fractions, so don't worry!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Report Cards and Spelling Test

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know that I did not get the spelling tests graded in time to send them home! We took them late in the day, and I completely ran out of time! So sorry about that! They will come home today!

I sent report cards home yesterday! Please let me know if you have any questions! Have a great weekend! I'm excited for a fun, take-home science project on Monday! Be sure to look for it coming home!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hello to all! Welcome to Ms. Z's blog of all things happening in the classroom! Thanks for following along! Today, as you are all aware, was St. Patrick's day! The class spent part of yesterday afternoon, and part of this morning constructing and perfecting leprechaun traps. I would not be surprised if your children grew up to be engineers! The traps were amazing! I wish I would have remembered my camera. Oh well!

Leppy the leprechaun visited our classroom twice today, the first time only leaving footprints and a note. The second time he visited, he left quite a mess! He tipped desks over, knocked over chairs, and left a path of glitter wherever he went! He also left a "gold" coin for each student! What a messy, tricky leprechaun! No one caught him, though!

Spelling test tomorrow! Have a wonderful night!
